A search around Twitter

A quick search on Twitter for the term “GMA” will get you know where, especially during the early morning hours when Good Morning America is on-the-air.  However, a search for “Gospel Music Association” reveals another story.

Kathryn Darden of Examiner.com went to the source and was told by a Gospel Music Association official that there are no plans to shut-down the non-profit organization.

Even still, rumors continued well into the night on Tuesday, including that John Styll, former president of GMA, is considering some sort of legal action against the association.

All in all, it appears that these claims are unsubstanciated and frankly, just rumors.

As of 6:40AM Nashville time, GMA has yet to release a statement on the subject.

Since 1964, the Gospel Music Association has existed to expose, promote and celebrate the gospel through music of all styles.

The show, held at Music City’s famed Loveless Cafe (Nashville, TN), was hosted by Brown Bannister and consisted of performances by CM legands Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, Casting Crowns, MercyMe, Natalie Grant, Kirk Franklin, Point of Grace, Fisk Jubilee Singers and The Booth Brothers.

The event, which was open to the public, was not cheap.  According to http://www.gospelmusic.org, a single ticket to the night’s performance was priced at $1,000.

According to Ed Leonard, chairman of the GMA Board of Directors (and president of Daywind Music), the economic hardship faced by the Gospel Music Association was created in part by the economic recession.

“This dinner concert is a way to not only ensure the viability of GMA in the future, but to have the concert experience of a lifetime,” Leonard said.
